What sets the Wharfe apart is what’s inside. No foam. No hidden chemicals. No Fire Retardant treatments. No spray glues. Just natural materials, built the right way. Under the top cover is a traditional build: solid hardwood, hessian, rubberised horsehair, Cocolok (rubberised coconut fibre), organic wool, cotton, and cushions made from 100 percent natural latex wrapped in feather and down. These materials hold their structure, stay comfortable, and stand the test of time, rather than softening, sagging, or needing to be replaced every few years. They’re made to last - and to be repaired, not thrown away.
No foam. No plastic. No catch.
Because we only use natural materials, we don’t add Fire Retardant chemicals, synthetic fillers, or any of the chemical sprays commonly used in modern sofa manufacturing. And we don’t use bio-foam either. Bio-foam can sound eco-friendly, but most versions used in sofas are still polyurethane foam – the same family as standard sofa foam. Some fossil ingredients are replaced with plant oils, but it remains a synthetic material that’s difficult to recycle, doesn’t naturally biodegrade, and is likely to stick around in the environment for a long time. We prefer materials that age beautifully, stay comfortable, and avoid landfill waste.

Product description
This sofa features a low, refined profile and a deep, welcoming seat, perfect for stretching out or curling up. Feather-wrapped 100% natural latex cushions provide support and softness in equal measure, while lumbar cushions offer added comfort. Every detail is considered: the frame is carefully upholstered in layers of organic wool and cotton, natural, breathable, and free from chemicals. These are among the finest materials available, chosen not only for how they feel, but for how well they wear.
Frame
Hand-built frame made from solid kiln-dried beech wood and eco-ply, sustainably sourced from Forest Stewardship Council-certified European forests. The durable frame has been glued, screwed, doweled, and then strengthened with screws for stability and longevity.
Fabric

Cushions
Each seat cushion blends 100% natural latex with a layer of extra-soft feather, offering lasting support and indulgent comfort. Naturally breathable and resilient, latex is 20x more durable than foam, and resistant to mould, mildew, and dust mites. It’s also recyclable and biodegradable. Cushions are reversible and low-maintenance, designed to be flipped, fluffed, and enjoyed for years. Back cushions are generously filled with a feather-and-down blend, all hand-stitched in our Yorkshire workshop. For vegan alternatives, we offer fibre fillings made from recycled plastic bottles.

Free fabric samples
Order a selection of free swatch samples to experience our fabrics at home. All of our materials are carefully sourced, producing the highest quality fabric with as little environmental impact as possible. Our natural fabrics are all biodegradable and manufactured without the use of chemicals or pesticides. Many of our man-made fabrics are produced from recycled materials diverted from landfill.
Reupholster your Slow sofa
Our reupholstery service breathes new life into well-worn pieces. At any point, you can return your sofa to us and we’ll strip it, recycle your old material and reupholster in your new choice of fabric. We mean it when we say, a sofa is for life.

Production
Your sofa or chair will be made to order in our workshops in the Yorkshire dales. We'll send you updates along the way as our team of makers bring your piece to life.
Delivery
Once your order is ready, we’ll contact you to schedule a delivery appointment. Delivery takes place Monday to Saturday, nationwide, and costs £150 per sofa or chair, with no hidden fees. Upon order, we can provide an accurate delivery timeframe. Delivery is automatically calculated at checkout based on the number of items in your order.
Hassle-free returns
We want our refunds policy to be as simple as possible. If you’re not happy with your sofa, for whatever reason, drop us a message within 14 days of receiving it and we’ll arrange for a courier to come and take it off your hands.
