Slow is a family-run, independent sofa company based in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales. We make natural, sustainable sofas, built to last, and designed to be better for you and the planet. Born out of frustration with the throwaway culture of modern furniture, Slow was created to prove there’s a better way. We use only honest materials, work at a pace that values quality over volume, and design for circularity, so each piece can be repaired, reupholstered, and kept for life.

Why I came home to start Slow
After 15 years working in digital design, I returned to the Yorkshire Dales where I grew up, and where my parents had run a bespoke furniture workshop for decades.
Buying a sofa from a well-known brand that collapsed within a year showed me just how broken the system had become. I wanted to prove there was a better way that combined timeless design with ethical production, natural materials, and real craftsmanship.
So, alongside my parents and drawing on their decades of furniture-making experience, we combined forces. Together, we built Slow: a studio rooted in transparency, sustainability, and the belief that furniture should be made to last.

Doing things differently
The name “Slow” is both a mindset and a method. We choose to pause, question, and reject the fast-paced systems that treat furniture as disposable.
We’ve taken the time to prototype natural sofa builds that are fire-safe without chemicals, soft without plastic foams, and entirely repairable, so they can age gracefully and be passed on. It’s slower, yes. But it’s better in every way that matters.
