Slow Terms & Conditions
Welcome
Thank you for choosing Slow.
Every piece we make is crafted to order in our Yorkshire workshop using carefully selected natural materials. Unlike mass-produced furniture, every sofa, chair and footstool is made specifically for the customer who orders it.
Because of this, buying from Slow is a little different from buying furniture that’s held in stock. These Terms explain how ordering from us works, what you can expect from us, and what we ask from you in return.
We’ve written them in plain English because we believe that’s the fairest way to do business.
Nothing in these Terms affects your statutory rights under UK consumer law.

2. Placing an Order
Before you order
We’re always happy to answer questions, provide fabric samples, discuss bespoke sizes or configurations, and help you choose the right furniture for your home.
Any quotation we provide is valid for the period stated on the quotation unless we tell you otherwise.
When an order becomes binding
Your order becomes binding once we have confirmed acceptance of your order.
Until then, we’re happy to discuss any questions or changes.
Cancelling within 24 hours
If you change your mind for any reason, you may cancel your order within 24 hours of placing it and receive a full refund.
Changes before production begins
If production hasn’t started, we’ll always do our best to accommodate reasonable changes to your order.
Depending on the nature of the change, this may affect the price or estimated lead time.
Changes after production begins
Once materials have been ordered or production has begun, changes may no longer be possible.
Where changes can still be accommodated, we reserve the right to charge any additional costs reasonably incurred.
Bespoke furniture
Most of our furniture is made specifically for each customer.
An order will be treated as bespoke where it includes one or more of the following:
- bespoke dimensions
- bespoke configurations
- bespoke comfort adjustments
- upholstery in fabrics outside our standard collection
- customer supplied fabric (COM)
- bespoke timber finishes
- any personalised specification requested by you.
Because these items are made specifically for you, different cancellation and return rights apply.
Sofas designed through our AI Design Consultation
Our AI Design Consultation exists to help you create a bespoke sofa — one made to your own dimensions, configuration, comfort preferences and fabric choices.
Because furniture designed through the AI Design Consultation is made to your chosen specification rather than to our standard range sizes, all orders placed following an AI Design Consultation are treated as bespoke orders under these Terms, and the bespoke cancellation and return rules in Sections 5 and 10 apply.
We’ll always confirm your final specification with you before production begins.
Accuracy of information
Please ensure all information provided when placing your order is accurate, including:
- delivery address
- contact details
- product specification
- upholstery selection
- finishes
- dimensions
- bespoke requirements
If anything changes after placing your order, please let us know as soon as possible.
Refusing an order
Occasionally we may be unable to accept an order, for example where:
- materials become unavailable
- an obvious pricing error has occurred
- a requested specification cannot reasonably be manufactured
- we are otherwise unable to fulfil the order.
If this happens, we’ll explain why and refund any payment already received.
3. Payment
For new furniture orders, we require payment in full before production begins.
For reupholstery projects, we require a payment of 75% before work starts. This enables us to schedule your project, order materials and begin work in our workshop.
The remaining balance for reupholstery projects is payable before your furniture is returned or delivered, unless otherwise agreed in writing.
Your furniture remains the property of Slow until full payment has been received.
4. Lead Times
Every piece we make is individually crafted to order.
Lead times vary depending on:
- the product you’ve ordered
- your chosen upholstery
- the complexity of the build
- material availability
- our current production schedule.
We’ll always provide an estimated lead time when your order is confirmed.
Delivery dates are estimates rather than guaranteed dates.
Should delays occur due to circumstances outside our reasonable control, we’ll keep you informed and work to complete your order as soon as reasonably possible.
5. Bespoke Orders & Consumer Cancellation Rights
Why bespoke furniture is different
Almost everything we make is crafted specifically for the customer who orders it.
Unlike furniture held in stock, bespoke furniture usually cannot be resold once production has begun because it has been made to your chosen dimensions, upholstery or specification.
Cancelling a bespoke order
If you wish to cancel before production has started, please contact us immediately.
If you cancel within 24 hours of placing your order, you will receive a full refund.
If production has not yet begun, we may be able to cancel your order, although we reserve the right to retain or deduct any costs already reasonably incurred.
Once production has begun, bespoke orders cannot normally be cancelled or returned.
Nothing in this section affects your statutory rights where the law provides otherwise.
Standard products
Where you purchase a standard, non-bespoke product (including our ready-to-go pieces), you may return it within 14 days of delivery — see Returns & Refunds below.
You may also have cancellation rights under the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013.
Nothing in these Terms limits your rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015.
6. Delivery & Access
We’ll contact you to arrange delivery once your furniture is ready.
Please ensure someone aged 18 or over is available to receive the delivery.
Delivery charges
The delivery charge agreed at the time of your order will apply.
Our standard delivery charge is reviewed annually.
Access
It’s your responsibility to ensure your furniture can be safely delivered into your property.
Please carefully check:
- doorways
- hallways
- staircases
- lifts
- corridors
- tight corners
- ceiling heights
- any other access restrictions.
If you’re unsure, we’re always happy to help. In many cases, a few measurements or a short video is enough for us to advise.
Please tell us in advance if your property has:
- restricted parking
- narrow lanes
- stepped access
- multiple flights of stairs
- listed building restrictions
- unusually narrow doorways
- restricted delivery times
- any other known access challenges.
Failed deliveries
If delivery cannot be completed because suitable access wasn’t available, or because no one was present to receive the furniture, additional delivery or storage charges may apply before a further delivery is arranged.
We’ll always discuss these costs with you beforehand.
Risk
Responsibility for your furniture passes to you once it has been successfully delivered.
Please inspect your furniture as soon as reasonably practicable after delivery and contact us promptly if you believe there is a problem.
7. Handmade Furniture
Every piece of furniture we make is crafted by hand.
No two pieces will ever be completely identical. Small variations are a natural part of handmade furniture and reflect the individuality of each piece rather than defects.
Natural materials may vary in:
- colour
- texture
- timber grain
- stitching
- piping
- pattern alignment
- cushion appearance
- overall dimensions.
These are normal characteristics of handcrafted furniture.
Dimensions may vary by approximately ±20 mm.
Photography & fabric samples
We do our best to represent our furniture and fabrics accurately.
However, colours and textures can appear differently depending on lighting, screen settings and natural fabric variation.
We always recommend ordering fabric samples before placing your order.
8. Natural Materials
One of the things that makes Slow furniture different is our use of natural materials.
Unlike synthetic materials, natural fibres continue to settle and develop character through everyday use.
As your furniture is used, you may notice:
- feather-filled cushions requiring regular plumping
- wool fibres gently compressing
- upholstery relaxing slightly
- fabrics developing a softer appearance over time.
These are expected characteristics and should not be regarded as manufacturing faults.
To help your furniture age beautifully, we recommend regularly rotating cushions where possible, plumping feather-filled cushions and following our care guidance.
9. Caring for Your Furniture
Our furniture is designed to last for generations.
Following our care guidance will help maintain both its appearance and comfort.
We recommend:
- avoiding prolonged direct sunlight where possible
- cleaning spills promptly using the correct method for your chosen fabric
- avoiding excessive heat and moisture
- following the care guidance supplied with your furniture.
Unless agreed otherwise in writing, our furniture is intended for domestic residential use.
Any repairs or alterations carried out by someone other than Slow may affect your guarantee.
10. Returns & Refunds
We want you to be delighted with your furniture.
If something isn’t right, please contact us as soon as possible and we’ll always work with you to find a fair solution.
Nothing in these Terms affects your statutory rights.
Standard & ready-to-go furniture
If your furniture is not bespoke, you may return it within 14 days of delivery. Simply contact us and we’ll arrange for it to be collected.
Once the furniture has been returned in its original condition, we will refund you in full, minus the collection charge.
The collection charge is the same as our standard delivery charge (currently £175). This charge is reviewed annually.
Refunds are normally issued within 14 days of the furniture arriving back with us.
If you cancel your order within 24 hours of placing it, you will receive a full refund.
Bespoke furniture
Because bespoke furniture is made specifically to your chosen specification and cannot usually be resold, it cannot normally be cancelled or returned once production has begun.
This includes furniture made with:
- bespoke dimensions
- bespoke configurations
- bespoke comfort adjustments
- fabrics outside our standard upholstery collection
- customer supplied fabrics
- sofas designed through our AI Design Consultation
- other personalised specifications.
Faults or damage
If you believe your furniture has a manufacturing fault or has been damaged during delivery, please contact us as soon as possible, ideally with photographs.
11. Guarantees
We build our furniture to last for generations and stand behind the quality of our craftsmanship.
Our guarantees are in addition to your statutory rights.
Our lifetime frame guarantee applies to the original purchaser and covers the structural frame of the furniture.
If a structural fault occurs in the frame, we will assess the issue and, where we determine that the problem results from a manufacturing defect or fair wear and tear, we will repair the frame free of charge.
The guarantee does not cover:
- accidental damage
- misuse or neglect
- improper care
- unauthorised repairs or alterations
- commercial use unless agreed in writing
- the natural characteristics of handmade furniture and natural materials described in these Terms.
If you believe your furniture has developed a fault covered by our guarantee, please contact us with your order details, photographs where possible, and a description of the issue.
12. Reupholstery
Reupholstery gives existing furniture a new lease of life, but every piece is different.
Some issues cannot be identified until the original upholstery has been removed.
Occasionally we may discover hidden issues such as:
- damaged frames
- worn springs
- degraded fillings
- previous repairs
- other structural concerns.
If additional work is required, we’ll always contact you before carrying it out where it affects the agreed price.
Where customers supply their own fabric, they are responsible for ensuring it is suitable for upholstery and that sufficient quantities are provided.
13. If Something Goes Wrong
If you have any concerns about your order, please contact us.
We’ll always take the time to understand the issue and work with you to find a fair and reasonable solution.
Nothing in these Terms affects your statutory rights.
14. Events Outside Our Control
Occasionally circumstances outside our reasonable control may affect our ability to fulfil an order.
These may include:
- severe weather
- fire
- flood
- transport disruption
- supplier delays
- industrial action
- shortages of materials
- power or utility failures
- government restrictions
- pandemics or other public health emergencies.
If this happens, we’ll let you know as soon as reasonably possible and do everything we reasonably can to minimise any delay.
15. Privacy
We only collect and use your personal information in accordance with our Privacy Policy.
Our Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use and protect your personal information, including information shared through our AI Design Consultation Tool.
16. Changes to These Terms
We may update these Terms & Conditions from time to time to reflect changes in our business, our services or the law.
The version that applies to your order will be the version in force when your order is accepted.
17. Governing Law
These Terms & Conditions are governed by the laws of England and Wales.
Any disputes will be subject to the jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales unless applicable consumer law provides otherwise.
18. Contact Us
If you have any questions about these Terms or your order, we’d be delighted to hear from you.
